Stefano Calcagnini and KR Crackerjack won the championship in the Tamarack Ranch Developing Horse Futurity in both the Level 4 and Level 3 with a score of 219.5 for owner Donadeo Stables ASD. For their first time in the show pen Calcagnini says he couldn’t be more proud of the 3-year-old stallion by Smart Spook out of A Ruf Mistress. “My run was consistent. I just tried to stay out of his way,” Calcagnini said. “He was pretty focused and went through the pattern really easy.” For Calcagnini it was two in a row as he won the Developing Horse Futurity in 2017 as well. He and KR Crackerjack earned a total of $5,603 for their efforts in the Tamarack Ranch Developing Horse Futurity. |

| Calcagnini Reining Horses has found it’s new home at Hershel and Shannon Reid’s Selah Ranch in Pilot Point, Texas.
Just a mile from CRH’s old location, the beautiful Selah Ranch boasts two state-of-the-art show barns, an indoor arena, two round pens, a free-flow horse walker, acres of pasture and turnouts, and much more. Married for over 25 years after a brief two-month courtship, Shannon and Hershel share a passion for their two daughters, two grandchildren and their numerous other children – their horses. Selah Ranch is named for a musical note or a biblical reference that means to pause and reflect, and it describes perfectly the spirit in which the Reid’s have built their ranch. “Horses are not just our business,” Shannon says, “They’re our family. Our love of our horses has to come before our desire for the financial rewards.” And this philosophy is not the ramblings of naïve horse lovers; Shannon and Hershel have learned the horse business from the bottom up and they have learned from some of the best teachers in the business. Shannon began riding at age 3 and eventually she picked up a rope and began competing with her mother at ranch rodeo events. Shannon and her mother were also finalists in PWRA events in the days when woman were not often seen swinging a rope. Meanwhile, Hershel was working on a business degree in college but once together, Shannon got him hooked on roping in short order. Together, they continued their education by spending 18 years riding under the tutelage of the legendary horseman, Sam Rose. Sam took both the Reid’s and their horses into the winners circle many times, winning multiple AQHA World Championship titles in both roping and working cow horse on many of the Reid’s great horses including; Mr. Bar Par, Nightline Playboy and Legendary Colonel. “It is important that every colt we breed we set up for success. We believe in doing business with integrity so that when we go to sleep at night, we know that we have done right by both the horses we breed and the people who buy them,” Shannon concluded.
